Soon his audience, which packed the readings held at Kittery Art Association, and the actors were the ones feeding the talk. After talking to him they gave him a chance. A few, frustrated with area opportunities, had for the most part stopped performing. And it would test out shows for future full production.įrom the get-go Stephens' actors were from the region's who's who list, many working together for the first time on his projects. It would aid in building a core audience for the type of theater he was interested in. They'd allow him to get to know the local talent ("and in a more informal intensive way then you do in full rehearsal"). The readings served a number of purposes. In 2006 Stephens established Harbor Lights Stage Inc., and its first initiative, Bold Face Play Reading Series. Stephens would regularly be spotted at downtown coffee shops sitting with yet another actor engrossed in conversation. He called performers and others connected to theater, introduced himself and asked about them and the scene. People in the theater community soon heard about the renowned director/theater artist from a theater-rich Minnesota community. ![]() Word traveled fast as he check out the local talent pool. After settling in along with wife, Patricia Lynch, the newly appointed executive director of The Music Hall, he got busy investigating possibilities. He hoped to establish a new theater on the Seacoast. Soon after Kent Stephens arrived in town he made his intentions known.
